UCLA's Harrison Named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week; Washington's Lawrie Named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

May 3, 2010

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA sophomore Andrea Harrison was named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week and WASHINGTON senior Danielle Lawrie was named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for April 26-May 2, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

Harrison, a native of Garden Grove, Calif., went 6-for-11 (.545) with four home runs, eight RBI and five runs scored to help the Bruins earn a three-game sweep of then-No. 18 Oregon. Harrison reached base in seven of her 12 plate appearances and slugged a sizzling 1.636 for the weekend. She hit a pair of two-run home runs in both Saturday and Sunday’s games. On Saturday, Harrison went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four runs batted in. In the rubber match of the series, her first-inning homer gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead and her third-inning jack put the Bruins ahead 4-2, which proved to be the game-winning RBI. The sophomore had hits in all three games, adding a single in the first contest on Friday. Harrison tied a career high with four RBI in each of Saturday and Sunday’s games. Overall she is tied for the team lead with 13 home runs and is third on the squad with a .376 average and 40 RBI.

Lawrie had another stellar performance against Oregon State, throwing 16 innings, allowing only one run and tallying 31 strikeouts. The Langley, B.C. native went 3-0 over the weekend, with her only earned run coming in the first inning of Friday’s game, snapping her 25-consecutive scoreless innings streak. The senior would not allow another run in her next 15 innings of work, however, to give her 40-of-41 shutout innings. She allowed just two hits and struck out 12 in a 13-1 win on Friday and then just allowed one hit in four innings of work for a 9-0 combined shutout with freshman Baily Harris on Saturday. In the finale, Lawrie went the distance with her nation-leading 17th shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out 13 while walking just one. Lawrie has now moved into sole possession of second on UW’s single-season charts with her 17th shutout, just four shy of her single-season record set last year. She is now within 45 of Alicia Hollowell’s conference strikeout record. For the season, Lawrie is 30-2, with a 0.98 ERA, and her 126 career victories are good for ninth in NCAA history.

This is Harrison’s first career Pac-10 Player of the Week accolade, and UCLA’s 115th weekly honor. For Lawrie, this is her 16th career Pitcher of the Week honor and her sixth this season, tying her record set last season for the most Conference distinctions in a season. Washington now has 76 weekly honors.
