Beavers Take Game One Of Civil War Series
May 7, 2010
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Kevin Rhoderick worked 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and the Oregon State baseball team scored the game-winning run on an Oregon throwing error in the 10th for a 2-1 victory over the Ducks in front of 2,774 Friday night at Goss Stadium.
Andrew Susac and Carter Bell reached on consecutive hit by pitches to start the 10th. Brent Warren pinch ran for Susac, then scored when Oregon's KC Serna attempted to get Michael Miller at first on an attempted double play. The ball got past Oregon pitcher Scott McGough, enabling Warren to score from second.
'That's a very important win, to start the series well,' Oregon State head coach Pat Casey said. 'Friday night sets the tone for the rest of the series and it's a key victory.'
Rhoderick was the third of three Oregon State pitchers and he improved to 2-1 this season after striking out five in 2 1/3 innings. He allowed two hits in the eighth when he came in to relieve Kraig Sitton, but settled down, allowing just a walk the rest of the way.
Greg Peavey started for the Beavers and went 7 1/3 innings, but did not get the decision. He scattered five hits and a run while striking out four in his sixth quality start of the season.
Oregon started off the game's scoring with a run in the fifth. Curtis Raulinaitis, who went 2-for-4 on the night, singled home Jack Marder.
The Beavers ended the game with just four hits but the third of the game provided an offensive boost. Stefen Romero hit a 2-0 pitch from Tyler Anderson over the right field fence in the seventh to tie the score at one.
Anderson had a strong start for the Ducks, working 6 1/3 innings. He allowed three hits and a run but did not figure in the decision. He struck out six.
