USC Opens Series With 8-1 Win Over Utah
May 7, 2010
LOS ANGELES - Ben Mount allowed one hit on four hits in seven innings Friday as the USC Trojans defeated the Utah Utes, 8-1, in the first game of a non-conference series at Dedeaux Field. Ricky Oropesa went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI while Mike O'Neill was 3-for-4 with two doubles.
USC (21-24) has won four of its last five games. Mount struck out five batters and walked three as Logan Odom and Ryan Cabral threw one no-hit inning each in relief. The Trojans are now 7-0 all-time against the Utes with tonight's meeting being the first one since 1971.
C.J. Cron hit his 15th homer of the season in the third for Utah (19-22), recording the lone run for the Utes. The Trojans scored four times in the seventh by a two-run homer from sophomore right fielder Alex Sherrod, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The series continues tomorrow with a 3 p.m. start and noon on Sunday. Both games will be broadcast through a live video webcast on usctrojans.com. Due to the Revlon Run Walk on Saturday, fans are asked to arrive as late as possible as most roads around the USC campus will be closed to traffic.
