May 8, 2010
SEATTLE, Wash. - The No. 15 Stanford softball team dropped a 2-1 decision at No. 1 Washington, Saturday, at Husky Softball Stadium. The Cardinal fall to 33-16 overall and 5-12 in the Pac-10, while the Huskies improve to 42-5 on the season and 14-3 in the conference.
Junior Ashley Chinn went the distance for the Cardinal, striking out five batters while giving up two runs on four hits. The loss drops Chinn to 8-7 on the season. UW's ace Danielle Lawrie picked up the win, improving to 32-2 on the season.
Stanford out hit Washington, 5-4. Sophomore Ashley Hansen led Stanford with a solo home run, while four other Cardinal recorded singles on the day.
Great pitching by both teams kept the game scoreless through five innings. Chinn registered three strikeouts, while Lawrie tallied 10 Ks for the Huskies during that span. Stanford finally tallied a run in the top of the sixth inning as Hansen blasted a solo shot over the center field wall to give the Cardinal the 1-0 edge. It marked the third home run and 31st RBI of the season for the sophomore.
However, a two-run walk-off home run by Lawrie in the bottom of the seventh gave the Huskies the win.
The series finale between the Cardinal and Huskies will be played Sunday, May 9. First pitch is scheduled for Noon from Husky Softball Stadium.
