Oregon's Eaton and Theisen Repeat as Pac-10 Champions

Berkeley, Calif. -- At Edwards Stadium on the campus of the University of California, Oregon's senior Ashton Eaton and junior Brianne Theisen repeated as champions at the Pac-10 Track and Field Multi-Events at Berkeley, Calif. Eaton won the men's title with a personal-best score of 8,154 points. Theisen won with a score of 5,917.
On the men's side, Eaton placed first in seven of the 10 events, including the 100 meters (10.59), long jump (24-05.5), shot put (12.77m), the 400 meters (47.25), 110 meter hurdles (13.79), discuss throw (42.29) and pole vault 16-10.75). Eaton finished 633 ahead of Washignton's Jeremy Taiwo, who finished with 7,521.
Rounding out the top five on the men's side was Marshall Ackley of Oregon with 7,331, then Michael Morrison of California with 7,218 and Arizona State's Jamie Sandys with 6,909 points.
At next week's Pac-10 Track and Field Championships, Oregon will begin with 16 points followed by Washington with eight points and California in third with six points.
On the women's side, Theisen repeated as the Pac-10's heptathlon champion with 5,917,491 points ahead of UCLA's Ryann Krais who finished with 5,426 points. Theisen had a stellar weekend of competition, placing in first-place in five of eight events, including 100 meter hurdles (13.74), high jump (5-11.5), shot put (39-05), javelin throw (134-11) and 200 meter dash (24.64).
Rounding out the top five was Keia Pinnick of Arizona State with 5,219 points, followed by teammate Samantha Henderson with 5,126 points. Oregon's Erin Funkhouser finished with 5,061 points to finish fifth.
At next week's Pac-10 Track and Field Championships, Oregon will begin with 14 points, followed closely by Arizona State with 11 points. UCLA will start in third with eight points.
The entire 2010 Pac-10 Track and Field Championships will take place on the University of California campus Saturday-Sunday, May 15-16.
