Reynolds Promoted to Director of Basketball Operations
May 11, 2010
Reynolds, 25, will now oversee the day-to-day operations for the program. He served as the Wildcats' administrative assistant during the 2009-10 season. Reynolds has worked alongside Miller in six of his seven seasons in college basketball.
'Ryan has been a part of my staff for six years at both Xavier and Arizona,' said Miller. 'He has shared in many of the director of basketball operations' responsibilities in that time and he has a complete understanding of our program and the University of Arizona's mission. This allows for a seamless transition as we move forward.'
Prior to joining the UA staff, Reynolds spent the 2008-09 campaign as a member of the Wake Forest University men's basketball staff, where he was the Demon Deacons' assistant coordinator of operations. He was responsible for assisting with team travel and meals, scheduling and additional logistics within the basketball office. Reynolds also coordinated WFU's recruiting databases.
'I'm very excited for the opportunity to be the director of basketball operations at such a storied program as Arizona,' said Reynolds. 'I am grateful for every opportunity Sean has given me from my time as a manager at Xavier to this position at Arizona.'
From 2003-08, Reynolds served at Xavier University, working under both Thad Matta and Miller. Four of those seasons were as an undergraduate student manager and the last was as the Graduate Program Assistant, where he prepared and provided scouting videos, film exchange, equipment, administrative assistance and supervision of the managers.
Reynolds was a part of four NCAA Tournament teams during his tenure at Xavier, including XU's Elite Eight squads in 2004 and 2008. The Musketeers won the Atlantic-10 regular season or tournament title four times in that span.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native graduated from Xavier in 2007 with a B.S. in sports management and a business minor. Reynolds earned his master's in Sport Administration from Xavier in December 2008.
The promotion became possible after Jamall Walker resigned to accept an assistant coaching position at Ohio University.
'I really enjoyed my time here at the University of Arizona,' said Walker. 'Any time you get a chance to work at a program of the stature of Arizona, it is a benefit to you, and I learned a ton working with Sean and the staff. However, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to continue to perfect my craft and to continue to coach on a daily basis.'
Walker, 32, returns to OU, where he was an assistant coach under John Groce in 2008-09. He originally joined the Arizona staff on June 4, 2009, as the director of basketball operations.
'Jamall did an excellent job as our director of basketball operations,' said Miller. 'The opportunity to return to Ohio University as an assistant coach is one that Jamall felt passionate about and I'm certain that he will positively impact that program in significant ways.'
