Arizona Welcomes Elite Throwers

TUCSON - The UA welcomed some of the elite throwers in the country Thursday as they hosted the Tucson Elite Throwers Classic at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
Some UA throwers got to test their skills against some of the best in the business Saturday in a field that included many former collegiate All-Americans, several national team members and even a couple Olympians.
Freshman Julie Labonte finished fourth in the women's shot put with her throw of 16.60m (54-5 1/2). Sophomore Taylor Bush continued her consistant sophomore year just a week removed from earning All-Conference honors in the hammer throw as she finished with a mark of 54.44m (178-7).
The women throwers came through in a huge way at last weeks Pacific-10 Conference Championships with all women competiing scoring a point and earning All-Conference honors en route to posting 51 of the teams total 109 points.
Outside of Arizona athletes, Olympian Kara Patterson set a Drachman Stadium record in the javelin throw with her mark of 60.33m (197-11).
The athletes and some more will return to Drachman on Saturday to repeat the schedule of what is essentially two meets in within a couple days. Events will begin Saturday at 4 p.m.
