Home Slate Wraps Up With 5-2 Loss To Ducks
May 23, 2010
SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team wrapped up its home schedule with a 5-2 loss to 22nd-ranked Oregon Sunday at Husky Ballpark.
The Huskies (27-26 overall, 10-14 in the Pac-10) got an early 1-0 lead, but four Ducks runs in the fifth proved to be the differentce. Oregon improved to 37-19 overall and 12-12 in the conference.
Oregon starter Zack Thornton (8-0) kept his unblemished record in tact with the win. In his seven and two-thirds innings, he gave up one unearned run on five hits.
Washington starter Andrew Kittredge (7-6), who picked up the win in relief on Friday, suffered the loss on Sunday, allowing four runs on seven hits in his four and two-thirds innings of work.
That lead held until the fifth, when the Ducks broke through with four runs. After a single and a walk put two on, a single from J.J. Altobelli drove in a run to tie the score. After another walk loaded the bases, a KC Serna sacrifice fly brought in the go-ahead run and a two-run single from Marcus Piazzisi made it a 4-1 Oregon lead.
The Ducks added to the lead in the ninth when Altobelli singled and eventually scored on a two-out double from Serna, upping the lead to 5-1.
In the ninth, the Huskies got a run when Caleb Brown singled and eventually came in to score on a groundout from Peterson. After that run scored, Troy Scott singled and Bradley Boyer walked to bring the tying run to the plate. But Oregon's Madison Boer came on and threw one pitch, which resulted in a game-ending double play.
The Huskies close out the 2010 regular season next weekend with a three-game series at USC.
