USC Track & Field Heads To NCAA Preliminary Rounds Held In Texas

2010 USC TRACK AND FIELD - The USC men's and women's track and field team has 22 males and 15 females (which includes four relay teams) that will be competing May 27-29 at the 2010 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary Rounds to be hosted by Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
USC AT THE 2010 PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS - The USC men's team placed second and the women's team fourth at the 2010 Pac-10 Championships hosted by California in Berkeley, Calif. on May 15-16. The men's team claimed seven titles and scored 156 points, but fell 12.5 points behind the winner Oregon. USC's 156 points were the most by a second-place team since the conference formed in 1979 and would have won the meet nine of the last 10 seasons and 24 of the 31 seasons. Winning titles were Ahmad Rashad (100m & 200m), Joey Hughes (400m), Trey Henderson (hammer), Aven Wright (triple jump), Manjula Wijesekara (high jump) and the men's 4x400m relay (Bryshon Nellum, Jason Price, Hughes and Reggie Wyatt). The women's team was led by second place finishes from Lauren Chambers (hammer), Shalina Clarke (100m HH), Dalilah Muhammad (400m IH), Lauren Guerrieri (discus) and the 4x100m relay (Clarke, Judith Onyepunuka, Elizabeth Olear and Aareon Payne).
NEW NCAA REGIONAL FORMAT - The NCAA's new regional format is called the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East/West Preliminary Rounds and features two meets held simultaneously May 27-29 in Greensboro, NC (East) and Austin, Texas (West) and will virtually serve as the first and second rounds of the NCAA Track & Field Championships. The top 12 athletes in each event at both regionals after two rounds of competition will advance to the NCAA Track & Field Championships being held in Eugene, Ore. June 9-12.
USC ENJOYED MUCH SUCCESS AT NCAA TRACK & FIELD REGIONALS - The USC men's team won four NCAA West Regionals during the seven-year format of four regionals and finished no lower than third (2003). The women's team claimed one regional title (2006) and placed third or higher six of the seven seasons.
RASHAD BECOMES PAC-10'S FIRST 3-TIME WINNER...TWICE - Senior Ahmad Rashad won both the 100m and 200m dash titles at the 2010 Pac-10 Championships in Berkeley, Calif., events he also won as a freshman in 2007 and as a junior in 2009. Rashad became the first Pac-10 male sprinter to win either race three times since the event was switched from yards to meters in 1976.

For the women: Ekene Anene (triple jump), Tamara Baumann (hammer), Alitta Boyd (long jump, triple jump, 4x100m), Kristine Busa (javelin), Lauren Chambers (hammer), Shalina Clarke (100m HH, 4x100m, 4x400m), Zsofia Erdelyi (10000m), Lauren Guerrieri (discus), Myra Hasson (400m, 4x400m), Marissa Minderler (hammer), Dalilah Muhammad (400m IH, 4x100m, 4x400m), Elizabeth Olear (400m, 4x100m, 4x400m), Judith Onyepunuka (100m, 4x100m, 4x400m), Aareon Payne (4x100m) and Brysun Stately (pole vault).
