BERKELEY - The No. 11-seeded California softball team will take on host Georgia at Super Regionals in Athens, Ga., on Friday, May 28 and Saturday, May 29, the NCAA announced recently.
The Golden Bears (44-17) and Bulldogs (46-11) will open the Super Regional on Friday, May 28 at 2 p.m. ET. That game will be shown live on ESPN2.
Game two will take begin at noon on Saturday, May 29. If necessary, game three of the series will start at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon. Both of Saturday's games will be broadcast on ESPN.
Friday's Super-Regional opening game will be the second meeting between the two schools in program history. The last time the two squads met, the Bears defeated the Bulldogs, 3-0, on Feb. 14, 1999.
Georgia advanced to Super Regionals after winning the Athens Regional with a 3-0 record. Similarly, the Bears went a perfect 3-0 to win the Columbus Regional, shutting out their opponents in each of the three games.
The Super Regional is a best-of-three series. Each of the eight Super Regional winners will earn a spot in the 27th NCAA Division I Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City June 3-9.
Tickets for the 2010 NCAA Athens Super Regional will go on sale Monday, May 24, at 9 a.m. ET. Tickets will be available online, by phone at 706-542-1231 or 877-542-1231, and in person at the UGA Ticket Office.
No all-session passes will be sold. Daily tickets good for all games played on that day will also be available at $10 for a chair-back seat, $7 for an adult bleacher seat and $5 for a bleacher seat for students, senior citizens and groups.
On Wednesday, May 26, will-call pickup for pre-ordered tickets will begin at 9 a.m. at the UGA Ticket Office. Will-call and ticket sales will move to the UGA Softball Stadium May 28-29, and will open two hours before the first game.
