Stanford Women Look To Defend Title At NCAA Championships
May 26, 2010
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford women's rowing, the defending NCAA champion, will go for the repeat at the NCAA Championships this Memorial Day Weekend (May 28-30) on the familiar waters of Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. Additionally, the Cardinal I Eight will also be going for repeat gold at this weekend's event.
The Cardinal, which earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, last saw action two weeks ago when it finished second at the Pac-10 Championships at Lake Natoma by just a half-point behind California. At that event, the Stanford II Eight claimed its first-ever Pac-10 gold while the I Eight was edged out of a repeat conference title by just nine-tenths of a second. The Four finished fourth in its Grand Final.
The I Eight will open up NCAA Championships action for Stanford, as the boat opens up defense of its 2009 title in the second heat of its class at 9 a.m. The Cardinal will take on the I Eight boats from Yale, Brown, Michigan and Wisconsin in the heat.
Stanford's II Eight, the 2009 national bronze medalist, will take to the water against California, Wisconsin, Washington State and Michigan State in its class' second heat, set to get off at 9:45 a.m.
The Four, meanwhile, will round out the day in the third heat of its class, set to take on Brown, Wisconsin, Princeton, Ohio State and Tennessee at 10:45 a.m.
Repechages will be held in the late afternoon, at 3:30 p.m. (I Eights), 3:45 p.m. (II Eights) and 4 p.m. (Fours).
