Four Pac-10 Men's Rowing Teams Selected for iRA Championships

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA, OREGON STATE, STANFORD and defending champion WASHINGTON all earned bids for the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships, taking place June 3-5, 2010 in Cherry Hill, N.J.
California will be sending its varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight, varsity four and open four to this year’s IRAs. The Golden Bears have won 15 IRA Championships, most recently in 2006. Cal finished second overall at the Pac-10 Championships after taking second behind champion Washington in all four races.
Oregon State will be making its 17th-consecutive appearance at the IRA Championships and will be taking the varsity eight, novice eight and open four crews to New Jersey. The Beavers are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Pac-10 Championships.
The Cardinal will send its varsity eight, second varsity eight, freshman eight, varsity four and open four crews to New Jersey. Stanford will look to improve upon a third-place finish in the varsity eight race at last year’s IRA Championships. This year’s squad finished third at the Pac-10 Championships.
Washington, the defending IRA Champion and newly crowned Pac-10 Champion, will compete in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, freshman eight, varsity four and open four competitions at this year’s IRA Championships. The Huskies are coming into the Championship off a dominating performance at the Pac-10 Championships on May 16 when they swept all four events to win the title.
