UCLA's Varsity Eight Finishes Fifth in NCAA Championship Semifinal Heat

SACRAMENTO - The UCLA women's rowing varsity eight crew finished fifth in a six-boat semifinal heat on Saturday morning at the NCAA Championships and will compete in Sunday's Petite Final.
The Bruins posted a fifth-place finish with a time of 6:27.21 on Saturday after having finished third in its elimination heat on Friday morning.
UCLA bested Pac-10 competitor Washington by over five seconds (6:32.46). Yale (6:16.54), California (6:16.60) and Virginia (6:17.69) rounded out the top three finishes in the morning's first semifinal heat. Michigan State raced to a fourth-place finish with a time of 6:23.97.
The varsity eight will race Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in the Petite Final (places 7-12). The Bruins' second varsity eight and varsity four boats will race in their events' respective Third Final races on Sunday morning. The varsity four will row at 9:45 a.m. and the second varsity will compete at 10:30 a.m. (places 13-16).
