Huskies And Bulldogs Square Off Thursday At World Series

May 30, 2010

The No. 1-ranked Washington softball team will open defense of its 2009 NCAA Championship Thursday at the 2010 Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.

Washington (50-7) takes on Georgia (48-11) in the fourth and final game of the day Thursday. The Huskies and Bulldogs are scheduled to do battle at 8:30 p.m. Central Time (6:30 Pacific Time) in a came that will air live on ESPN2 and on radio at KKNW AM-1150.

The Huskies, seeded No. 3 in the tournament despite being the unanimous No. 1 in both national polls, are the highest seed remaining as top-seeded Alabama and No. 2 Michigan were both ousted in the Super Regionals. Georgia is seeded No. 6.

Other matchups on day one of the WCWS include No. 9 seed Missouri vs. No. 16 Hawai'i (10 a.m. PT/ESPN), No. 4 Florida vs. No. 5 UCLA (12:30 p.m./ESPN), and No. 10 Arizona vs. No. 15 Tennessee (4:00 p.m./ESPN2).

If the Huskies beat Georgia on Thursday, they'd play the winner of Tennessee-Arizona Friday at 6:30 p.m. PT. The loser of the UW-Georgia game will play the loser of Tennessee-Arizona Saturday at 11:30 a.m. PT.

The Huskies depart for Oklahoma City early Monday morning.
