LaVonda Wagner No Longer to Serve as Coach

June 1, 2010

Corvallis, Ore. -

Oregon State University Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis announced Tuesday that LaVonda Wagner will no longer serve as the head coach of the women’s basketball program.

Wagner compiled a 68-85 overall record, including 26-64 within Pacific-10 Conference play in her five seasons at the helm.  The team appeared in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament twice.

“It’s always a difficult decision when you make a change in the leadership of a program,” De Carolis said.  “I appreciate Coach Wagner’s service to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and wish her well in her future endeavors.”

Wagner was hired as the fourth head coach in the history of the program on April 15, 2005 after accumulating 17 years of experience as an assistant head coach at Duke, Illinois and East Tennessee State.  She was an All-American basketball and volleyball student-athlete at Mars Hill College in North Carolina in 1986.

Oregon State officials will embark on a search for Wagner’s successor immediately.
