Three Cardinal Named to U-20 World Cup Team

STANFORD, Calif. - Three Stanford players were named to final roster of the United States Under-20 Women's National Team that will play in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Germany this summer.
Sophomore midfielder Teresa Noyola, freshman defender Rachel Quon, and freshman forward Courtney Verloo were named to the squad Monday by coach Jillian Ellis after a two-week training camp in the Los Angeles and San Diego areas.
The U.S. will play international matches against Japan (June 10) and Germany (June 13) in Germany before the World Cup begins July 13. The U.S. plays Ghana (July 14) and Switzerland (July 17) in Dresden before completing group play against South Korea (July 21) in Augsberg. The tournament continues through Aug. 1.
Noyola scored the first goal in the final match of camp for the U.S. team in a 2-1 victory in Chula Vista, Calif., over Mexico, another World Cup qualifier, on May 24. Her goal came on a 25-yard free kick. She also assisted on a goal in a 4-0 victory over New Zealand on May 15 in Carson, Calif.
A day earlier, Verloo curled a right-footed shot from 22 yards into the upper right corner of the net. It was Verloo's first international goal for the U.S. U-20s after scoring 12 in 13 games at the U-17 level.
