CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Oregon State senior Diego Velasquez was among those honored as PING First Team All-Americans for Division I announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America following the stroke-play portion of the NCAA Championships Friday.

'It's a great honor to be recognized as one of the best golfers in the country,' Velasquez said. 'I've worked extremely hard and it was nice to see my game come together at the right time. This recognition has allowed me to play in some of the most elite amateur tournament in the in the country and I'm looking forward to a great summer.'

Velasquez, a senior from Bogota, Colombia, becomes Oregon State's third All-American in men's golf and first ever first team selection. Anthony Arvidson, 2001, and Bob Allard, 1969 each were honorable mention All-Americans.

Thursday, Velasquez ended his collegiate career at Oregon State with a fourth place individual finish at the NCAA Championships. His final round 6-under 66 tied the The Honors Course competition course record and moved him from 20th place entering the day into the top five. Velasquez's 2009-10 season re-wrote OSU's record books as he finished the season with eight top 10 finishes, which ties Birk Nelson's 1995-96 season, and his season scoring average of 70.31 shattered OSU's previous record by more than a full stroke.

Early in the season, Velasquez won the prestigious Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate by an incredible seven strokes and finished 10-under for the tournament.
