Fifth-Seeded Bruins Face #6 Georgia for Right to Advance to WCWS Championship Series

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The fifth-seeded Bruins will face #6 Georgia on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT/12 p.m. CT and are one win away from advancing to the Women's College World Series Championship Series. The game will be televised live on ESPNHD and online at ESPN3.com, with Gametracker also available at UCLABruins.com.
The Bruins, 47-11 on the season and a perfect 7-0 in the NCAA Tournament, were off on Saturday after going 2-0 through the first two days. UCLA knocked off #4 Florida on Thursday by a score of 16-3 in six innings and defeated #16 Hawai'i 5-2 on Friday.
The Bulldogs are at 50-12 on the year and 7-1 in the postseason. Georgia beat #3 Washington 6-3 on Thursday to advance in the winner's bracket, but fell to Southeastern Conference rival and #15 seed Tennessee 7-5 on Friday. The Bulldogs rebounded with another win over an SEC foe, beating Florida 3-2 on Saturday to eliminate the Gators.
The Bruins have won their first two WCWS games on 13 occasions, advancing to the title game or series 12 times and winning the championship eight times.
The Bruins are 11-1 all-time against the Bulldogs, winning the last six matchups, with six of the 11 meetings coming in the NCAA Tournament (5-1 UCLA). Most recently, UCLA knocked off Georgia in three games in the 2005 Super Regionals and in two contests in the 2008 Supers, both at Easton Stadium. The Bruins also won a 2002 Regional game in Columbia, S.C.
The two teams met in the first weekend of the season in Clermont, Fla. on Feb. 14, with UCLA notching a 3-2, comeback win over Georgia. The Bruins trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, but scored the game-tying run on a triple by freshman B.B. Bates and took the lead on an error by Laura Trout. Junior Donna Kerr earned the win, striking out nine in six innings, and senior Megan Langenfeld picked up the save with a 1-2-3 seventh inning on two strikeouts.
