Follow The Huskies At The IRA Championship Grand Finals
June 5, 2010
Saturday, June 5, 9:11 a.m: We're two races down here at the 108th IRA Championships in Cherry Hill, N.J. The men's open 4+ captured a Bronze Medal in the first race in a boat that featured a pair of frosh walk-ons. Cornell, the clear favorite going into the race, took the Gold Medal while Wisconsin won Silver.
This race preceded the Varsity 4+, and the undefeated boat did not disappoint coming down the 2,000-meter course on the Cooper River. Leading from the start, the Huskies forced the other crews to play catchup. By the 1,000m mark, the Huskies had an open water lead and kept up the punishing pace going into the final portion of the race. After they crossed the finish line, stroke Justin Hopkins pumped his fist, while 3-seat Roko Svast collapsed in exhaustion.
