Rivera-Morales Adds Final Award

June 5, 2010

TUCSON - Graduating senior Luis Rivera-Morales added one more tally to her career list of achievements at Arizona, being named to the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA)/ ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII second team Friday.

Rivera-Morales, a two-time All-American long jumper for The University of Arizona track and field team, added his second academic achievement of the year after also earning All-Academic honors from the Mount Pacific Sports Federation during the indoor season.

The Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico native utilized the 2010 season to complete his final year of eligibility indoors where he finished sixth at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., to post the second All-American accolade of his career.

Rivera-Morales graduated with a 3.34 GPA in Industrial Engineering. The fact is made all the more impressive as just five years ago, he was forced to resort to community college after failing his TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam required for admittance into the UA.

The senior won a couple national championships for Central Arizona College while he was there, learning the language the whole while to set him up for his prestigious (albeit short-lived) career at Arizona.
