Cougar Baseball Season Ends with Loss at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas scored three runs in the top of the first and the No. 15 Razorbacks went on to defeat No. 23 Washington State 7-2 in a NCAA Baseball Regional final at Baum Stadium, Monday.
With the victory, Arkansas (43-19) earned a trip to a Super Regional against the tournament's No. 1 overall seed Arizona State next weekend in Tempe, Ariz. After staving off elimination twice, Sunday, the Cougars (37-22) saw their season end.
The Razorbacks jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Cougar starter Paris Shewey (7-3) on a RBI-single by Brett Eibner, a sacrifice fly from Andy Wilkins and James McCann's run-scoring single.
WSU got on the board in the second inning when Matt Fanelli drilled a pitch from Arkansas starter TJ Forrest (8-0) over the left-center field wall to make the score 3-1.
The Razorbacks chased Shewey with three runs in the third to increase their lead to 6-1. The Cougars picked up a run in the fourth on three errors by Arkansas and a RBI-single by Michael Weber. Arkansas closed the scoring in the seventh on a solo home run by Derrick Bleeker.
Washington State finished the season with 37 wins, its most under head coach Donnie Marbut and most since 37 in 1991...Paris Shewey made his 30th appearance of the season to tie the Cougar single season record set in 2005 by Dane Renkert...Seth Harvey finished his career with 78 appearances, second all-time at Washington State...Harvey's 26 appearances in 2010 is tied for ninth all-time on the Cougar single-season list...senior Michael Weber (first baseman), redshirt-junior Cody Bartlett (second baseman), Derek Jones (outfielder) and Matt Fanelli (designated hitter) were named to the all-tournament team.
