Jimenez Facility Almost Ready
June 7, 2010
TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona's Athletic Department is nearing completion on the renovated Jimenez Practice Facility. The facility, which has undergone a myriad of updates including the installation of two new playing surfaces, looks to be ready by early July.
Over the weekend, construction crews finished installing sod to the west end of the facility. Earlier this month, a synthetic turf was put in place along the east half of the complex which runs roughly 130 yards north to south.
One very noticeable improvement to Jimenez is the crown of the field where the natural grass lies. This backbone of the field allows for better drainage and upkeep during the heavy wear-and-tear months of autumn.
Another added improvement to the facility is better lighting. Crews replaced the old 60-foot light towers with six new 90-foot towers equipped to provide efficient lighting during night practices.
The project, part of phase one of UA’s master athletic facility upgrades, is funded by private gifts to the university's athletic department.
