Kevin Rhoderick Selected By Chicago Cubs In MLB First-Year Player Draft

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State right-handed pitcher Kevin Rhoderick has been selected by the Chicago Cubs in the eighth round (280th overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.
Rhoderick is Oregon State's seventh selection, behind fifth-rounder Tyler Waldron (Pittsburgh), sixth-rounder Greg Peavey (New York Mets), seventh-rounders Kraig Sitton (Colorado) and Josh Osich (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) and fellow eighth-rounder Tanner Robles (Cincinnati).
The selection is the second of Rhoderick's career as the Scottsdale, Ariz.., native was selected in the 18th round of the 2007 draft by the Detroit Tigers.
Rhoderick is coming off a junior campaign in which he was named All-Pac-10 Conference Honorable Mention. He went 2-2 with a 3.13 ERA, compiling four saves in 31 2/3 innings. Opponents hit .239 against him while he tallied 35 strikeouts.
Through three seasons at Oregon State, Rhoderick is 5-6 with a 3.20 ERA and has 25 saves, which ranks him second in school history. He has 100 strikeouts in 81 2/3 innings while opponents are batting just .208 against him.
