Tyler Waldron Selected By Pittsburgh In MLB First-Year Player Draft

Oregon State right-handed pitcher Tyler Waldron has been selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth round (147th overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.

Waldron is the first Oregon State player to be selected in the 2010 Draft.

The selection is the second of Waldron career as the Pilot Hill, Calif., native was selected in the 32nd round of the 2007 draft by the Florida Marlins.

Waldron recently completed his junior season with the Beavers - and second after transferring prior to the 2009 season - and went 4-6 with a 5.90 ERA, tallying three saves in 61 innings of work. He struck out 56 and kept opponents to a .275 average in 23 appearances, seven of which were starts.

In two years at Oregon State, Waldron is 10-10 with an ERA of 4.84. He has made 39 appearances, 21 of which were starts, and has totaled 126 strikeouts in 154 1/3 innings.
