Diekroeger Part of Freshman All-America Team

June 9, 2010

STANFORD, Calif.-- Stanford third baseman Kenny Diekroeger was one of 11 third basemen selected to Collegiate Baseball's Freshman All-America team, completing a solid first campaign for the Cardinal infielder.

Diekroeger, the Pac-10's Freshman of the Year and a first team All-Pac-10 selection, became the first Cardinal freshman since Edmund Muth in 1997 to lead Stanford in hitting, batting .356. He was the co-leader in RBIs (41) with 13th round draft pick and second baseman Colin Walsh, and also scored 42 runs. He was second on the team with five home runs. Diekroeger's 23-game hit streak this season was the fourth longest since 1988.

Diekroeger is part of a group of talented freshman All-Americans from the left side of the infield, which included freshmen of the year from the: SEC in Austin Maddox (Florida), Missouri Valley in Eric Stamets (Evansville), Conference USA in Chris Taladay (Central Florida), the Southland Conferece in Ryan Dalton (Texas-San Antonio), and the Atlantic-10 in Bill Urban (St. Bonaventure) and Justin Roland (Charlotte).

Kenny's younger brother Danny, who hit .462 in 31 games for Menlo School in nearby Atherton, is slated to join his brother as an infielder in 2011.

Collegiate Baseball named TCU's Matt Purke the National Freshman Pitcher of The Year (13-0, 3.40 ERA, 122 strikeouts, 27 walks) and St. John's outfielder Jeremy Baltz the National Freshman Player of The Year (.396, 24 HR, 16 2B, 85 RBI).
