Cal State Fullerton defeated UCLA, 4-3, before 2,077 fans in Game 1 of the Super Regional on Friday evening at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Right-hander Noe Ramirez earned the victory for the Titans (46-16), striking out 13 batters in seven-plus innings. The Bruins (46-14) stranded the game-tying run at third base in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Cal State Fullerton reliever Nick Ramirez induced a game-ending groundout with Beau Amaral aboard third base.
Serving as the Game 2 designated visiting team, UCLA will send sophomore right-hander Trevor Bauer (10-3, 2.72 ERA) to the mound. Cal State Fullerton will counter with junior right-hander Daniel Renken (12-2, 3.95 ERA).
Should UCLA win Game 2, the Bruins and Titans would play Game 3 at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Sunday at 7 p.m. (PT).
