Beeler and Keiser Named to Preseason Watch Lists for Outland and Nagurski Trophies

June 21, 2010

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford center Chase Beeler and outside linebacker Thomas Keiser were named to the preseason watch lists for the Outland Trophy and Nagurski Trophy, two of the most prestigious awards in college football.

The Outland Trophy, named after the late John Outland, an All-America lineman at Penn and Kansas at the turn of the century, is presented to the nation's top interior lineman. Presented annually since 1946, the Outland Trophy is the third oldest award in major college football.

Beeler started all 13 games at center for the Cardinal last season on an offensive line that allowed the second fewest sacks in the nation and paved the way for a school-record rushing attack, headed up by Doak Walker Award winner Toby Gerhart.

Keiser is one of 74 players named to the preseason watch list for the Nagurski Trophy, presented annually to the nation's best defensive player by the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club.

An All-Pac-10 honorable mention selection as a sophomore, Keiser recorded a team-high nine sacks last season among his 47 total tackles. He has 15 sacks in 25 career games dating back to the 2008 season.

Beeler, along with sophomore Jonathan Martin, was also included on the preseason watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award.
