Chris Owusu and Chase Beeler Named Preseason All-Americans by Sporting News

June 22, 2010

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior kickoff return specialist Chris Owusu and senior center Chase Beeler both earned spots on Sporting News' preseason All-America team, which was released today.

Owusu was named to the second team as a kickoff returner while Beeler was one of five offensive linemen to land spots on the second team.

Owusu led the Pac-10 and finished fifth nationally last season in kick-off return average (31.5) and totaled 1,167 yards in kickoff returns, smashing Stanford's single-season record of 715. He also tied a Pac-10 record by returning three kickoffs for touchdowns against Washington State, San Jose and Washington, with the latter two coming on opening kicks in consecutive weekends. Owusu earned first team All-Pac-10 honors and was named a second team Walter Camp All-American as a kickoff returner last season.

Beeler's selection as a Sporting News preseason second team All-American comes on the heels of the senior center being named to the preseason watch list for the prestigious Outland Trophy, along with the Rotary Lombardi Award.

Stanford opens the 2010 season on Sept. 4 against Sacramento State at Stanford Stadium. For ticket information, please call 1-800-Stanford.
