12 Former Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player Earn WNBA Roster Spots

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The WNBA season opens this weekend and 12 former Pac-10 women's basketball players have made the final rosters across seven teams. Among the games taking place this weekend featuring former Pac-10 standouts is the Los Angeles Sparks at the Phoenix Mercury contest on Saturday, May 15. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. PT.

Four former Cardinal are on WNBA squads, the most of any Pac-10 teams. USC has three former players on WNBA rosters, and two Oregon and UCLA alumni will be donning WNBA uniforms this weekend. Two recent Pac-10 graduates are among the players looking to make their professional debuts this weekend. Jayne Appel of Stanford, a two-time All-American and 2009 Pac-10 Player of the Year, has signed with the San Antonio Silver stars. Best known for her sharp three-point shooting, Taylor Lilley of Oregon was a two-time all-conference selection and will be sporting the Phoenix Mercury uniform.

Most teams open the 2010 campaign on Saturday, May 15, while some squads open the season on Sunday, May 16. Below is a full list of former Pac-10 players who have made WNBA rosters for the 2010 opening weekend and their season opener.
