Five Pac-10 Women's Soccer Squads Ranked in NSCAA Preseason Poll
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Five Pac-10 squads were ranked in the top 25 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) pre-season poll, announced today. Co Two Pac-10 teams were picked in the top five with Stanford tabbed second and UCLA picked third. Stanford finished the 2009 season as the national runner-up, losing to eventual National Champion North Carolina, who was picked first in the poll.
The Cardinal and the Tar Heels will meet in a rematch on August 27 in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Bruins saw their 2009 season come to an end in the NCAA College Cup semifinals to Stanford. In what is also likely to be a big matchup in Pac-10 competition, the Cardinal and Bruins matchup on October 10 in Los Angeles, Calif.
Other Pac-10 teams in the rankings included California at No. 14, USC in the 19th spot and Washington State rounded out the Pac-10 picks at No. 21. Also receiving votes were Oregon State and Washington. All the Pac-10 squads recognized in the poll represented the Conference in the NCAA Tournament last year.
The Pac-10 women's soccer schedule gets underway with non-conference tilts beginning August 20.
