PREVIEW

Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych will count on the senior experience of outside hitter Jill Sawatzky and middle blocker Kiersten Sambrailo to lead a young Beavers team this season. Sawatzky, the Beavers' top returning hitter, finished last season averaging 3.25 kills per set. She enters 2010 ranked 12th on the OSU all-time list for career kills with 1,019 and ninth for career kills per set (3.10 kps). Sambrailo led the Beavers in blocking with 1.23 blocks per set. Sophomore opposite hitter Ashley Eneliko returns after a solid freshman campaign during which she was named an Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 Freshman. Eneliko finished the season tied for second with 1.00 blocks per set.

Last season, the Beavers fell, 3-2, on the road at Arizona before upsetting the Wildcats in four sets at home. OSU split the season series with the Sun Devils, winning 3-2 in Tempe. 


 

PLAYER TO WATCH

#2 Jill Sawatzky

Senior, Outside Hitter, St. Andrews, Manitoba, Canada



As a junior in 2009, Jill Sawatzky started and played in all 30 matches and 110 sets for the Beavers. In addition to her 3.25 kills per set, Sawatzky averaged 2.66 digs per set. She racked up four 20-plus kills matches and two 20-plus dig matches. She also tallied nine double-doubles for kills and digs. Sawatzky earned All-Tournament honors at the ASICS/Coors Classic and was named Most Valuable Player of the Active Ankle Challenge. She finished the season with 42 assists, 15 aces and 62 blocks. Sawatzky is also a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic First Team selection.
