Stanford's Yahyavi Named Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD senior forward Dominique Yahyavi was named Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 14-20, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
The Santa Barbara, Calif., native scored three goals in the Bay Area Classic to lead Stanford to co-champion honors with CALIFORNIA. Yahyavi scored the game winner in the 86th minute to give the Cardinal a 1-0 win at San Francisco on Thursday and get its season back on track. After starting the season ranked No. 13 in the nation, Stanford dropped its first four matches. Yahyavi's goal gave the Cardinal the much-needed momentum to get back in the W column. He followed his game winner up with two goals against Santa Clara in Stanford's 4-1 win on Sunday. The three goals is already a career high for Yahyavi, who had just three career goals entering the season.
This is Yahyavi's first weekly honor and Stanford's 12th all-time Pac-10 Player of the Week.
The Cardinal stays at home this weekend for the Stanford Nike Classic. Stanford plays Saint Mary's on Friday before taking on Denver on Sunday.
Also Nominated: Hector Jimenez, CAL; Brian Ramsey, OSU; Daniel Steres, SDSU; Evan Raynr, UCLA; Stephen Fung, WASH
