Washington State's Maes Named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- WASHINGTON STATE freshman midfielder Eileen Maes was named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 28-Oct 4, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Maes was a catalyst for the Cougars against Gonzaga last weekend, scoring three goals in the second half to lead WSU to a 4-0 victory. Maes, a native of Oakland, Calif., scored in the 51st, 87th and 90th minutes to become just the sixth Cougar in school history and third freshman to net at least three goals in a game. Her first goal came off a free kick from 35 yards out that she deposited in the back of the net. In the 87th minute, she struck again, putting away her second goal of the game off a corner kick and she completed the hat trick just minutes later when she took a through ball from the right side and netted the goal on a strong finish.
As the Cougars head into Conference play next weekend, hosting Arizona State and Arizona, Maes ranks second on the team with four goals and nine points.
This is Maes' first career honor and the eighth all-time for Washington State.
