UCLA's Chavez Named Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA freshman forward Victor Chavez was named Pac-10 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

The Fontana, Calif., native came off the bench to record a hat trick in No. 16 UCLA’s 4-1 win over Oregon State on Sunday. Chavez became the first Bruin freshman since Lucas Martin 24 years ago and is the first UCLA player since Maxwell Griffin in 2007 to score a hat trick. Chavez’s three goals came within a five minute span to break open the game. Chavez now leads the Bruins with five goals, two game-winning goals and 13 points.

This is Chavez’s first career weekly honor and UCLA’s 40th all-time Pac-10 Player of the Week.

With wins over the Beavers and then-No. 23 Washington over the weekend, UCLA improved to 7-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the Pac-10. The Bruins host No. 25 San Diego State on Saturday.
