Five Pac-10 Rowers Medal for U.S. at World Championships
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-10 was well-represented on the podium at the 2010 World Rowing Championships, held October 31-November 7 at Lake Karapino in New Zealand. Five current or former Pac-10 student-athletes captured medals for the United States in the women's eight, women's four and women's pair.
The women's eight crossed the finish line with open water over the competition, capturing the fifth-consecutive gold medal for the U.S. In the boat were former WASHINGTON coxswain Mary Whipple and current STANFORD senior Elle Logan. Both Whipple and Logan were in the U.S. women's eight that won gold at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
The women's four, featuring former CALIFORNIA rower Mara Allen and recent WASHINGTON graduate Adrienne Martelli, claimed bronze behind the Netherlands and Australia.
Former Golden Bear Erin Cafaro rowed in the women's pair that earned a bronze medal behind New Zealand and Great Britain. Cafaro was also a member of the women's eight that took home gold in Beijing.
