Pac-10 Women's Soccer All-Conference Honors
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- In a vote by the Conference coaches, STANFORD forward Christen Press was named Pac-10 Player of the Year, OREGON STATE forward Jenna Richardson was named Freshman of the Year and head coach of the Cardinal, Paul Ratcliffe, was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year, as Commissioner Larry Scott announced the women's soccer All-Conference honors today.
PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE YEAR -- CHRISTEN PRESS, STANFORD
Press, a native of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., becomes the sixth Stanford player all-time and second-straight to be named Conference Player of the Year. Press, the team captain of the consensus No. 1-ranked Cardinal, leads the nation with 23 goals and an average of 2.65 points per game. She has scored or assisted in all but two games this year and has ten game-winning goals. This season Press has become Stanford's all-time leader in points (176), goals (68) and assists (40). Press is also a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist and a two-time All-Pac-10 first team selection.
PAC-10 FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR -- JENNA RICHARDSON, OREGON STATE
Richardson made her mark on the Beaver offense this season, netting six goals and adding five assists for 17 points, good for second on the squad. The White Rock, British Columbia, native becomes the first Oregon State player to be named Freshman of the Year. The speedy forward has a knack for finding the back of the net when the game is close, as she netted the game-winning goals against Washington and Washington State in 1-0 victories, en route to being named Pac-10 Player of the Week for her efforts.
PAC-10 COACH OF THE YEAR -- PAUL RATCLIFFE, STANFORD
Leading his squad through an undefeated regular season, a Pac-10 Championship and the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight year, Paul Ratcliffe was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year for the third-consecutive season. Stanford is riding a 17-0-2 season heading into the tournament and is the consensus No. 1 team in the nation. Ratcliffe's team is only the second in Pac-10 history to have back-to-back undefeated seasons. Under his tutelage, the Cardinal have the third-best scoring offense in the nation, averaging 2.95 goals per game and the sixth-best goals against average (0.487).
