Pac-10 Cross Country Teams Qualify for NCAA Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Four Pac-10 cross country teams automatically qualified for the NCAA Championship meet on Monday, Nov. 22. The Oregon men and Washington women won the NCAA West Regional meet on Saturday at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ore. 2010 Pac-10 Champion Stanford men and the UO women finished second in their respective races to claim automatic bids, as well.



In the men's race, the Ducks (63) edged the Cardinal (65) to take first place in the race. The top Pac-10 individual finisher, however, was ARIZONA's Stephen Sambu, who ran the 10k race in a time of 29:57.95, just 0.06 second behind the individual winner, Portland's Trevor Dunbar. Rounding out the top three team finishers was California, who earned 78 total points. Four of the top-five team finishers were Pac-10 teams, while all eight placed in the top 15 of the 25-team race.



In the women's race, the Huskies (73) edged the Ducks (77) to win the West Regional. The 2010 Pac-10 Individual Champion, Oregon's Jordan Hasay, posted her second-straight victory, winning the 6k race in Springfield by a time of 20:01.90, nearly five seconds in front of second-place finisher, California's Deborah Maier (20:06.81). Placing in third was Pac-10 Champion Stanford with 86 points. Pac-10 women's teams swept the top-five spots in the race, with all nine coming in the top 17 of the 31-team competition.



The NCAA will announce the at-large teams and individuals, as well as the other automatic qualifiers from other NCAA Regionals competed, who will be running at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Sunday, Nov. 14.
