Oregon's Johnson Named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- OREGON junior forward Amanda Johnson was named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 22-28, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Johnson helped Oregon to a 3-1 record last week, while also helping the Ducks claim the Oregon Invitational title over the weekend. The Santa Rosa, Calif., native, who was named the tournament Most Valuable Player, led the Ducks in scoring (20.5 ppg), rebounding (10.8 rpg), steals (15) and blocks (6) during Oregon's four games last week.
On Monday against Portland, Johnson recorded her 14th-career double-double and led the squad with 20 points and 12 rebounds, as Oregon erased a 20-point second-half deficit and defeated the Pilots on the road, 83-79.
En route to leading the Ducks to the Oregon Invitational crown, Johnson led the tournament field with an average of 20.7 points per game and 4.0 steals per game, while finishing second in the field with 10.3 rebounds per game over three contests. She shot a strong 46.4 percent from the floor and sunk five 3-pointers.
In game one of the tournament, Johnson scored a game-high 20 points and also added a game-high nine rebounds in the Ducks' 74-48 victory over Idaho. In Saturday's close 82-78 loss to CSU Bakersfield, Johnson posted season and game highs with the 15th double-double of her career, netting 29 points and grabbing 14 boards. Her 15 career double-doubles now rank eighth all-time in UO history. She also added season and game highs of four blocks and four thefts.
In Sunday's impressive 110-60 victory over Sacramento State, which clinched the tournament title for the Ducks, in 17 minutes of action, Johnson scored 13 points, grabbed eight rebounds and fell one steal short of matching her career high with a game-high seven steals.
This is Johnson's second-career Player of the Week honor and Oregon's 36th all-time.
The next game for Johnson and the Ducks comes on Friday, Dec. 3 at 6:00 p.m. PT as they take on Boise State on the road.
