California's Morgan and Stanford's Press Named MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalists

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- CALIFORNIA senior forward Alex Morgan and STANFORD forward Christen Press are two of 15 semifinalists for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Award, the most prestigious individual award in intercollegiate soccer, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced today.

Morgan, a Diamond Bar, Calif., native, played in only 12 games for the Golden Bears due to being called up to the U.S. National Team for the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying tournament, but still led Cal in goals scored (14) and points (30). She also put 32 of 64 (.500) shots on frame. Morgan was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection and has played a key role for the U.S. National Team as they recently advanced to next summer's FIFA Women's World Cup.

Press, one of only two semifinalists from last season, has led the Cardinal to its third-straight NCAA Women's College Cup. The Pac-10 Player of the Year, Press leads the nation with 60 points, 2.50 points per game and 26 goals. The 26 goals ties the Stanford single-season scoring record, set by last year's Hermann Trophy winner, Kelly O'Hara. The Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., native has put 88 of her 171 shots on frame, a .515 accuracy rate. Press and the Cardinal will face Boston College in the NCAA College Cup semifinals on Friday, Dec. 3 at 3:30 p.m. PT, televised live on ESPNU.

Head coaches of Division I programs with current membership in the NSCAA will vote to determine the 2010 MAC Hermann Trophy recipient. Three finalists for the award will be announced on Friday, Dec. 10. They will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis for a news conference on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, where the winner will be announced. A dinner and formal presentation of the award will follow the news conference that evening.
