STANFORD, Calif. - The third-seeded Stanford women's volleyball team stormed through the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Friday, with a 3-0 sweep of Albany at Maples Pavilion. Set scores were 25-12, 25-17, 25-15 as the Cardinal improved to 25-3 on the season.
Ninth-Ranked Bruins Thwart American Upset Bid
AUSTIN, Texas - Senior Dicey McGraw (22), sophomore Bojana Todorovic (17) and junior Sara Sage (11) each had double figures in kills, as the ninth-ranked Bruins held off a spunky American squad in five sets on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Gregory Gymnasium. Set scores were 26-28, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 15-11.
USC Opens NCAA Tournament With Sweep Of New Mexico
LOS ANGELES - Junior All-America outside hitter Alex Jupiter led with 16 kills and hit .464 (16-3-28) as the No. 6 seeded USC Women of Troy swept the New Mexico Lobos (25-19, 25-8, 25-18) in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament. USC hit .330 in the match to sweep New Mexico for the second time this season (Sept. 3 in Honolulu).
Huskies Get Sweet Sweep Of Hawaii To Reach NCAA Regionals
SEATTLE - A victory is always sweet for the Husky volleyball team, but Friday night's win was one to savor for Washington, as it moved on to the NCAA Regional round with a 3-0 victory over 15th-seeded Hawaii (29-3) tonight at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Washington (23-8) is back in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2008 and the sixth time in the past eight years and will stay at home next weekend as it looks to march on through the national championships.
Northwestern Downs Arizona in Four
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Making its first NCAA tournament appearance in five years, and the first for any of the current players, Northwestern made the most of its opportunity, taking an emotional 25-18, 25-20, 18-25, 25-20 victory over 20th-ranked Arizona. Northwestern now advances to Saturday's second round and will take on either Northern Iowa or Missouri at 4 p.m. at the McLeod Center.
