USC's Gilbreath Named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- USC junior forward Briana Gilbreath was named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 29- Dec. 5, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Gilbreath beat her previous career-high scoring total in back-to-back games this week during a long road trip that send USC East for the third time this season. At then-No. 4 Xavier, the Katy, Texas, native had a double-double with a career-best 26 points to go with 12 rebounds as the Trojans took the Musketeers of XU down to the wire, falling in the final minute of play by a close 69-66 margin. She hit four 3-pointers in the game, a new career high for the junior.
The Trojans then traveled to face NC State on Sunday, where Gilbreath again led the way with 23 points and a team-high seven rebounds as the Trojans beat the Wolfpack, 84-75, to wrap up a road split.
Across both games, Gilbreath hit seven 3-pointers, adding five assists and four steals. She also averaged 24.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg and shot .500 (16-32) from the field and .636 (7-11) from 3-point range.
This is Gilbreath's second-career Player of the Week honor, both coming this season. For USC, it is its 40th honor all-time.
The Trojans will have almost a two-week break for finals, before hosting the Women of Troy Basketball Tournament, beginning Sat., Dec. 18 as they host Colorado at 4:30 p.m. PT.
