Arizona's Geer and Stanford's Criste Named Pac-10 Swimmers of the Month
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA freshman Margo Geer and STANFORD senior John Criste have been named Pac-10 Swimmers of the Month for November, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Geer posted impressive results in November, winning nine events while recording nine NCAA "B" cut times and helping the Wildcats to dual-meet wins over Wisconsin and UCLA. The Milford Center, Ohio, native placed first in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team in the victory over the Badgers. One week later against USC, Geer won the 50 and 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay. Her times in the 50 free (22.83) and 100 free (49.00) are the top times for a Wildcat this season. Geer also won two events in the dual meet win over the Bruins.
Criste won four individual events in November. The Saugus, Calif., native captured the Tri-Distance Challenge with Cal in all three breaststroke events with a combined time of 3:26.09, winning the 100 breast (56.76) and 200 breast (2:03.29). Criste also won the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at the Arena Invitational. He twice set the meet record in the 100 breast, finishing in 53.37, the nation's fastest time. Criste's winning time in the 200 breast (1:57.60) was the third-fastest time in the nation. The Cardinal also won the 400 medley relay at the meet.
This is Geer's first career Pac-10 Swimmer of the Month honor and the fourth for Arizona all-time. On the men's side, this is Criste's first career monthly award and the ninth for the Cardinal all-time, the most in the Conference.
