Thompson Named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON STATE's Klay Thompson was named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 6-12, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. The junior guard led the Cougars to wins over Gonzaga and Texas-Pan American last week.
The Ladera Ranch, Calif., native scored 24 points in the 81-59 win over Gonzaga. After just three points in the first half, Thompson took over after halftime, scoring 21 points while shooting 7-for-10 from the field. He finished 8-for-14 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the 3-point arc with six assists, one block and a career-high seven steals. Thompson led the Cougars in scoring, assists, rebounds, blocks and steals on the night. In WSU's 74-52 victory over Texas-Pan American, Thompson added 15 points and four assists.
For the week, he averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 3.0 rebounds.
It is Thompson's fourth career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and the 23rd weekly recognition for Washington State all-time.
The Cougars travel to Santa Clara on Sunday to face the Broncos at 7 p.m.
