USC, California Battle for Spot in the NCAA Championship Game
After sending at least four teams to the NCAA regional finals for eighth time in the last 10 tournaments, the Pac-10 sends a pair of teams to the NCAA semifinals and is guaranteed a spot in the national championship game. It is the sixth time in 10 years at least two Conference teams have reached the national semifinals, and it will be the ninth time during that span a Pac-10 squad will be playing for the national crown. A Pac-10 team was in the title tilt every year from 2001-2008 and in 21 of the 29 tournaments ... Representing the Pac-10 in Kansas City are sixth-seeded USC and seventh-seeded CALIFORNIA, both of which make a return to the semifinals for the first time since 2007 ... Pac-10 teams have won 13 NCAA titles, as the Trojans vie for their fourth national championship and the Bears will be looking for their first.
