Scouting The Oregon Ducks
DT - Oregon - Senior
Ht. 6'6 Wt. 275
Height and wingspan. Plays hard with solid effort for four quarters. Shows impressive strength at point of attack vs. inside run. Good play recognition. Has some pass rush ability for a tall player. Highly competitive player with very good production.
Long strider who lacks great quickness. Plays too high at times on the line of scrimmage. Needs to protect his legs better from chop blocks. Needs to add more bulk strength to his frame.
Good sized defensive lineman who lines as both DE and DT depending on the front. Has the size to play inside or outside. Plays the game with desire and second effort at all times. Very good strength stacking things up vs. the inside run. Knows how to use his hands to separate from blockers. Can play with leverage which helps his functional strength. Not a gifted pass rusher, but he keeps coming and can flush out QB's with his ability to penetrate up the middle. Overall, this is a size player with a good motor who can only get better as he fills out and adds strength. Makes his presence felt in every game viewed. An NFL career is most definitely on the horizon. Has the size, strength and movement skill to play both DE or DT.
CB - Oregon - Sophomore
Ht. 5'11 Wt. 180
Tough and competitive player who shows solid tackling ability. He is smooth and fluid in his backpedal with flexible hips to turn quickly. Has a good short burst to close on the ball. Athletic in his movement. Has good man cover skills one on one. Gets in good position downfield to play the ball over his head. Smart player with good overall football savvy and instincts. Return skill.
Lacks true top-end speed for the position. Bit of a tweener type who is more the overachiever than truly physically gifted. Slow at times to react quickly in zone coverage. Better on coverage than off.
This talented sophomore leads the Ducks with five interceptions on the year. He is also one of the better punt returners in the nation with four TD returns to date and a hefty 24 yard average per return. He moves around quite a bit but best suited as a nickel DC over the slot. Can play safety in a pinch. He is an aggressive run support player who will not miss many tackles. Can diagnose plays with quick read and react ability. This player can break open a game with a big punt return. Good all around athletic skill.
TE - Oregon - Junior
Ht. 6'4 Wt. 240
Has a soft pair of hands catching the football. Gets open underneath consistently. Very good athletic ability and body control. Good blocker in space. Smart football player who shows natural instincts in the pass game. Versatile TE/H back type.
Lacks size and strength. Marginal blocker on line of scrimmage. Not much of a deep threat in the vertical passing game. Lacks top end speed.
Lines as both TE and outside slot receiver in Oregon's multiple attack. Very good athlete who can catch the football with consistency. He is not a vertical type threat but works the underneath zones with precision and route running instincts. Not a strong blocker in line as he lacks true bulk strength but is solid on the move and out in space vs. linebackers. He is a solid role player for the next level at the H back position. Also an effective special teams contributor. This kid is a late-round draftable prospect.
CB - Oregon - Senior
Ht. 5'10 Wt. 188
Very good quickness and cover skill for small man. He plays with a fiery demeanor and is always around the ball. Fast to close on balls thrown in front of him. Very good consistency. Doesn't give up many plays downfield.
Lacks ideal size and stop watch speed. Quicker than he is fast. He lacks some range and long speed. Will struggle some in coverage versus taller receivers. Inconsistent tackler due to small frame and lack of strength.
This kid is a very good and sound college football player. He lacks ideal size but is a good coverage corner who likes to compete. Has some problems in the run support area due to his small stature but does not shy away from contact. He shows a quick and fluid back pedal with a short burst to close on the ball. Can stay close in man to man on most underneath routes but his issues will be with downfield coverage versus speed types. Has a chance at the next level as a nickel type corner and special teams contributor. Mid-round draftable talent.
