Williams Named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA's Derrick Williams was named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 10-16, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. The sophomore forward led the Wildcats to an 80-69 win over rival ARIZONA STATE on Saturday.
The La Mirada, Calif., native matched a career-high with 31 points against the Sun Devils, marking the second time in the last three games he has scored 31 points. Williams also notched his fifth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. He connected on 66.7 percent of his field goals (8-of-12) and 93.8 percent (15-of-16) of his free throws to go with two assists and one steal. Williams has scored in double figures in 27 consecutive games dating back to last season. He is averaging 19.7 points and 7.3 rebounds to go with a .658 field goal percentage this season.
It is Williams' second career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and the 78th weekly recognition for Arizona all-time.
The Wildcats hit the road to face WASHINGTON on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. PT and WASHINGTON STATE on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. PT.
