UW's Kingma Named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- WASHINGTON junior guard/forward Kristi Kingma was named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 24-31, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Kristi Kingma (Mill Creek, Wash.) almost single-handedly helped Washington defeat Washington State, 64-52, on Sunday, scoring 29 points as the only Husky to score in double digits. She was 11-for-20 from the floor, including five threes, while adding six steals to set career highs in each category. Kingma was one point off her personal best, which she set earlier this season against Kent State on Nov. 23.
With the win, the Huskies extend their win streak over the Cougars to 31 games, dating back to the 1995-96 campaign.
It is Kingma's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor of the season and the first of her career. It is also Washington's 29th all-time selection.
Washington remains at home this week, opening the second half of Pac-10 play hosting Oregon on Thursday, Feb. 3 and Oregon State on Saturday, Feb. 5.
Also Nominated: Ify Ibekwe, ARIZ; Becca Tobin, ASU; Talia Caldwell, CAL; Earlysia Marchbanks, OSU; Kayla Pedersen, STAN; Jasmine Dixon, UCLA; Briana Gilbreath, USC.
