Ishino, Russell Earn Weekly Gymnastics Honors
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- STANFORD senior Allyse Ishino and ARIZONA senior Miranda Russell have been awarded Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week and Pac-10 Special Performance of the Week honors, respectively, for the week of Jan. 24-Jan. 30, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Allyse Ishino, a fifth-year senior out of Santa Ana, Calif., set a collegiate career-high with an all-around score of 39.475, in Stanford's 196.825-196.500 dual meet victory over No. 4 Utah. In addition, she nabbed the top podium finish in uneven bars and balance beam with a score of 9.90 on each event. Ishino's beam mark ties her all-time best and helped Stanford break a tie score going into the final rotation.
This is Ishino's second Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honor and 21st in Cardinal history.
Russell, a fifth-year senior hailing from Oshkosh, Wis., helped lead the Wildcats in their victory against No.14 Boise State 195.375-194.400. She competed in three events, taking first in uneven bars and floor, and tying for second in vault. In just her third meet, after a two year struggle with a knee injury, Russell has proven to be a leader for the Wildcats this year. She played a key role in the GymCats upset of the Broncos.
The Special Performance of the Week nod is Russell's first of her career and Arizona's third all-time.
