Catron Named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON's Joevan Catron was named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 31-February 6, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. The senior forward led the Ducks to a sweep of Washington State and then-No. 20 Washington over the weekend.
The Phoenix, Ill., native averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals in the two games. Saturday's 81-76 victory over the Huskies was Oregon's first over a ranked opponent since the Ducks defeated then-No. 17 Washington, 90-79, on January 2, 2010. Catron paced Oregon with 20 points, including 16 in the second half, and a team-high nine rebounds. In Thursday's 69-43 win over Washington State, Catron registered team-highs with 17 points and nine rebounds to go with three assists. He was 7-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-5 on three-pointers against the Cougars.
Of his eight career 20-point efforts, seven have occurred this season. Catron has led the Ducks in scoring 14 times and grabbed a team-high in rebounds 13 times this season.
It is Catron's first career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and the 29th weekly recognition for Oregon all-time.
The Ducks hit the road to face UCLA at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and USC at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
