No. 13 Ducks Conquer Spartans, 8-0
STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 13 University of Oregon softball team (11-2) got back on the winning track Saturday afternoon with an 8-0, five-inning win over San Jose State (8-5) in its second game at the Libby Matson Tournament.
Softball Drops Games to Northwestern and Long Island
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The Oregon State softball team dropped both ends of a day-night double-header Saturday at the Cathedral City Classic. The Beavers fell to Northwestern by a score of 8-4 before falling to Long Island by a score of 3-0.
No. 20 Bears Breeze By No. 14 LSU, 11-3
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Not only did Saturday see the No. 14 California softball team score its second most runs of the young 2011 season, but those 11 runs came in an 11-3 trouncing of No. 20 LSU, giving the Golden Bears their second win over a ranked opponent this year. Additionally, not only did sophomore pitcher Jolene Henderson pitch the complete-game win, giving up just three runs against a potent Tiger offense, but she also hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh push Cal (8-1) past LSU (10-5).
Cardinal Posts Two Wins on Day Two of Stanford Nike Invitational
STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 16/17 Stanford softball team topped No. 24 Kentucky, 4-2, and run-ruled UC Davis 16-2 in five innings, on day two of the Stanford Nike Invitational at Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improves to 11-3 overall.
No. 7/9 Huskies Down Cal Poly, 5-3
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The No. 7/9 UW softball team completed its sweep of the Cathedral City Classic, going a perfect 5-0 on the weekend and improving to 13-0 on the year with a 5-3 victory over Cal Poly Saturday afternoon.
#2 UCLA Falls to #8 Tennessee 7-1
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Senior GiOnna DiSalvatore and sophomore B.B. Bates each had two-hit games, but the second-ranked Bruins lost to #8 Tennessee on Saturday by a 7-1 score during their second day at the Cathedral City Classic.
Hot Bats Lead No. 8 Softball To Two Wins Over MSU
TEMPE, Ariz. - With Mandy Urfer, Katelyn Boyd and Talor Haro all batting over .500 on the day, the eighth-ranked Sun Devil Softball team collected two more wins on the season Saturday as they topped the Michigan State Spartans twice 10-2 (5) and 5-2. Hillary Bach and Mackenzie Popescue took wins on the day moving to 3-0 and 2-1 respectively on the season as the Sun Devils move to 12-1 on the year.
Arizona Splits on Day Two at Cathedral City Classic
No. 3 Arizona (12-2) split its two games Saturday in second day at the Cathedral City Classic. Kenzie Fowler took the loss vs. Georgia, her first loss of the season, despite only pitching one inning in an 8-0 run rule loss for the Cats. UA responded in the nightcap, beating Virginia 9-3 behind the arm of Shelby Babcock.
